The Story of BABA YAGA
The Baba Yaga is a popular figure in Slavic folklore. Loosely translated in English as “Grandma Witch”, the Baba Yaga was a hideous old grandmother living deep within the woods in a decrepit hut that stood on chicken legs. At dawn she would set off through the dark woods, driving a huge flying mortar and pestle and using her broom to sweep shut the woods behind her. She was known to either help or hinder any passerby’s depending upon her mood. Generally, having a huge appetite, she preferred to eat those that wandered her way.. especially children.
